Does this sound familiar?
The alarm goes off and your body is jolted awake (stressor #1).
You hit snooze and the alarm goes off again (stressor #2).
As you head for the shower, your eye catches your phone. Just a quick peek at Facebook leads to current events (stressor #3).
In under 30 minutes, your Cortisol stress hormone has been elevated three times. While you don’t necessarily feel the stress, your sympathetic nervous system is doing its job 'protecting' you and goes into flight or fight. When this happens, the elevated Cortisol causes your insulin to go up and that can cause insulin resistance. This can lead to many issues, including weight concerns.
And this was just the first 30 minutes of the day! With the fast-paced, technology-filled world we are living in, our bodies are under constant stress all day long. Even if we eat well, exercise, and do all the things...weight struggles and feeling poorly are likely to continue.
As I participated in a 15-day hormone reset and read multiple books on the topic, I learned that how we begin our morning sets the stage for how our entire day goes. It even impacts how we will sleep that night.
If we have a busy, stressed-out day, it’s likely we’ll have a restless night of sleep and the cycle starts over the next day. This causes our hormones to get out of balance. When our hormones are not in balance it's hard to feel well.
There are things we can do. If we provide our body with what it needs we can feel better. That sounds good, right? But how are we supposed to be everything to everyone and still take time for ourselves?
While it felt like I was adding on even more 'things to do' during the hormone reset, what I found is that by taking extra time for myself that focused on stress reduction with proper nutrition at the right times and doing calming exercise, I really did feel a sense of peace and began to feel less stressed out.
Do I have this all figured out? Absolutely not! It's so much easier to fall back into old ways. Every day is a work-in-progress. But I've found that having the understanding of the importance of self-care and giving my body what it needs, has given me 'permission' to take more time for myself and do things for me.
Each of the 15-days of the hormone reset focused on different aspects of supporting hormones, including morning routines, sleep routines, nutrition, a focused schedule on timing for eating to give our body time for digestion and healing, and so much more.
Grab this guide. Since how we begin our day sets the stage for the rest of the day, I put together some stress-reducing things you can do as part of your morning routine. Get this Self-Care Morning Routines for Hormone Support guide and pick out one item to focus on for the next 7 days. And then after 7 days, add on another.
By showing up for yourself each day you will find your way to feeling better. It will take time and it won't be easy, but it will be worth it. It's not too late, you got this!

Chemicals in our personal care and cleaning products also impact our hormones and can impact our weight as well. You'll find valuable info in this blog too.
